Where do I start?
I’m a marketer, so my natural habitat is swimming in various marketing channels for fun. Here I am, let’s do this. Let’s start this blog from scratch together. In parallel with a certain nature vs nurture argument, I started and abandoned an embarrassing amount of websites over my 15+ years in the trenches.
I just counted, it’s 15!
15 websites over 15 years is pretty fitting.
You could find everything and anything under the sun:
- A coconut oil dropshipping site
- An pinterest fashion pin site
- A niche blog about how to keep raccoons away in Canada
- A job board for customer service jobs
- A recipe site
- A baby food blog
- Some sort of “photo writing prompts” automation for a Google+ site (I was too scared to open that folder)
I started them from scratch each time. Back in my day (shaking fist at clouds), you had to write your own content and point your own nameservers.
How much did these sites earn me? Thousands of dollars – in experience. The job board made a couple hundred dollars. The rest did not make it into the monetization phase.
This graveyard of past websites and projects do not haunt me, no. The remaining 32 GBs worth of files on my Google Drive serve as fond memories and a bit of inspiration to always keep going.
At the end, they all got diagnosed with the serious case of a “chasing the next shiny idea.” I had no focus, no long-term thinking, no grit for content.
What is Breaking Income?
I’ve come to realize that I can start the millionth blog on the vast plains of the internet but if it doesn’t interest me (beyond tinkering with some of the tech setup), it will die a martyr death just like the others.
This is why I intend Breaking Income to be my last big blog. My headquarters of sorts.
Breaking Income will be a place where we can explore together ways to make money online, offline, off dividends, off freelancer side gigs, off whatever will help us build our money pool for our old age.
I’m not shy to say that I love money and always will love money. I grew up poor and worked myself up to a decent career and an almost middle class existence, so I get to say things like this.

You see, I’m not saying that I love spending money. I don’t have a lot of stuff and whatever I do have is either old or some cheapo item I found somewhere on sale. No, I love having money. I love being smart with money and invest it and diversify the heck out of it.
But I digress.
On Breaking Income, I will be inviting folks to guest post about their experiences and successes. I am not planning on featuring a lot of “influencers” or people who already have a big business. I want to talk to people who have built themselves up little by little and now they make a comfortable, 4 or 5-figure income a month.
Breaking Income will go on as long as I’m earning money one way or another (yes, I did think about becoming a foot model.. more on that later).
Here’s what you can expect on this blog:
- Interviews or guest blogs featuring small business owners or working professionals who share their journey from minimum wage to thousands of dollars of riches
- Money-making ideas for your own blog
- Job postings from the watercooler (high potential job opportunities that are flying under the radar)
- Personal blockers to work on that will make you more money
I’ll add more here as I think of more ideas.
Oh, and you may, or rather, you will find a lot of errors, mistakes, typos on this blog. My New Year’s Resolution on this fine April day is to not overthink things but just do it. Even if it’s not perfect. Hello, I’m a recovering perfectionist and I’m freeee!
Are you ready?
I’m excited to get this blog started. Is anyone out there? Leave a comment and tell me your biggest money-making blocker today.
